The Deniliquin native had anchored the early morning shift on the Albury commercial station since 2011.
Moon will host the 10am to 11am weekday mornings show on the ABC, replacing Gaye Pattison who will focus on managerial tasks as part of her chief of staff role.
“I’ve been at the Ace network for just over 10 years which has been fantastic, I’ve absolutely loved it,” Moon said.
“But the ABC is my preferred listening station personally and I saw the listing for the job and thought the opportunity was too good to pass up.”
Moon nominated broadcasting the breakfast show from New York for a week as her highlight at 2AY.
Being soaked in cold water for the ice bucket challenge was another notable time.
Ace Radio boss Mark Taylor was disappointed to lose Moon, but wished her well.
“We’re very sad to see Sandra go,” Taylor said.
A replacement for Moon to join fellow breakfast host Kev Poulton will be sought and is expected to be appointed by September.
Beechworth-based broadcaster Karen Prater will fill-in for two weeks from Monday.
Pattison, who will stay Friday mornings host, said Moon would debut August 7.
“We’re really looking forward to having someone of the calibre of Sandra in the team,” Pattison said.
“She’s a warm and engaging person who will bring delight to our listeners.”
In other media news, Ace has appointed Benalla Ensign editor Libby Price to host its agricultural show heard on its radio stations in other parts of Victoria.
Mrs Mirabella alleges the item, which accused her of pushing her political successor Cathy McGowan at a function, was defamatory.
In a farewell piece in yesterday’s Ensign, Price makes no reference to the case, but noted the stress of the job.
“I’ll admit to having lost sleep over stories I knew were going to make me very unpopular but stories I felt it was my role to tell,” Price wrote.
“Having come from the ABC where editorial independence comes above all else I would like to think I have done as I said I would in my very first editorial ‘to be tough but fair’.”
