“The hydraulics crew has repaired the main and has been steadily re-establishing the water supply,” the spokesperson said.
“It was a huge task in trying conditions but the system is being returned to normal. Thanks to everyone for their patience, and also for the kind thoughts for the crew.”
UPDATE: Thurgoona residents have suffered a major interruption to their water supply on Thursday when a large tree fell and ruptured a main on the northern side of Thurgoona Drive.
Albury Council hydraulics crews rushed to the scene of the incident opposite the Thurgoona Golf Resort and succeeded in isolating the broken main.
Earlier, council confirmed water had been cut to many properties in Thurgoona Park, Kerr Road area and Fairway Gardens.
Homes and businesses in other parts of Thurgoona also experienced low water pressure with some residents reporting brown water coming from their taps.
On Thursday evening, a council spokesman said it was hoped repairs in “challenging conditions” could be completed by midnight.
"Site access is challenging due to fibre optic cables, Telstra lines and other services, but (council) crews are working as fast as possible to restore supplies," he said.
One eyewitness said the uprooted tree had caused extensive flooding to low lying area.
But the council spokesman confirmed no properties had been inundated.
EARLIER: Thurgoona residents are experiencing a major water outage after a large tree fell and ripped up a section of the northern feeder water main.
Albury Council has confirmed water has been cut to many properties in Thurgoona Park, Kerr Road area and Fairway Gardens.
Properties in other parts of Thurgoona are likely to have low water pressure.
Council hydraulics staff are at the scene, working to repair the main.
"It is not known how long the repair will take to complete but it could be several hours," a council spokesman said.
"The break has caused localised flooding, but the water is flowing into a creek and is not affecting properties."
