Izzy Berry, 12, returned from school holidays this week to find a box sent from Government House.
It contained a letter and a jar of honey labelled Isabella.
“His Excellency has his own beehives at Government House Sydney and harvests his own honey which he has named Isabella after the first ship to bring honey bees to Australia in the early 1820s,” it read.
“Given that your name is Izzy, the Governor thought you would enjoy a jar of Isabella honey as a memento of your meeting.”
Izzy, who co-hosted a tour of the school for Mr Hurley in her role as a school captain, was thrilled with the gift.
But despite enjoying honey toast for breakfast she has no plans to consume the contents of the 270-gram jar.
“I think it would take away from it; if I leave it full forever I’ll think back on it and remember,” Izzy, whose full name is Isabelle, said.
