Owners Melinda and Sebastian Nedziak had planned to open the doors on their first big expansion out of Yackandandah on July 1, but just four days prior to opening a drunk smashed the shop’s front door.
The need to custom-fit glass to the doors delayed repairs, but a big clean-up effort meant the gravy was finally flowing on July 8.
Since then, manager Codey Keeble has been run off his feet.
“We’ve had plenty of tourists coming through with the snow fall being great,” he said.
“We’ve also been overwhelmed by support from locals – they have just been coming in welcoming us to town and to say they’re sorry about what happened.”
Mr Keeble has also regained his confidence working in the shop after being shaken up by the incident last month.
“This guy was really aggressive – it was so full-on,” he said.
“I didn’t want to come back here at night for the next few days, but I’ve got over my nerves.”
The temperature lows of the high country have meant perfect conditions for pie eating – and Mr Keeble has been quite surprised at the popular flavours so far.
“In Yack, lamb mint jelly is really popular, but people are a bit scared of it here,” he said.
“I think people love our pies because they’re so fresh; we don’t bake up 500 in the morning and keep them the rest of the day, we do lots of 100.
“And Seb is awesome with flavours.”
