Yarrawonga co-coach Chris Kennedy admits the Pigeons are still experimenting, just a month from finals.
“It gets closer every week (to finalising the best side), if you don’t experiment during the year you don’t know what players can do, it may cost you the odd home and away game,” he said.
Given how tight the competition is, it’s a gutsy move by Kennedy and Damian Sexton, but the former is a long-time mentor who’s right more often that not.
MARK’S MOVE

And we could see more of Yarrawonga’s midfield maestro Mark Whiley as a forward.
The former AFL player equalled his season-high of two goals in the thumping win over Myrtleford.
“Look, it was just something we experimented with, so it was probably the first time he’s spent any time in the forward line,” Kennedy said.
The Pigeons are in an awkward spot though.
They’ve lost two gun midfielders in Tyler Bonat and Matt Gorman, so Whiley is clearly their best on-baller, but he’s also dangerous as a forward.
GUTSY CALL
Logan Morey’s effort to play all bar five minutes of the game against Myrtleford with a broken left arm will go down in Pigeons’ folklore.
“I got kicked in the arm, the player was trying to kick the ball off the ground,” he said.
“I’m actually left-handed and (former player) Mick Stevens said to me at three-quarter time, ‘am I left-handed’? He told me I looked quite awkward going to punch with my right hand.”
Morey is uncertain when he’ll return.
BETTER NEWS
Lavington had more positive news on the injury front after Kris Holman was stretchered off.
“No, there’s no broken ribs,” he said when quizzed.
“I had an ultrasound and X-ray and they didn’t reveal anything, but it could be cartilage damage.
“I was running back with the flight and (Mat) Grossman hit me flush with his knee, on the left side, right near the heart.
“It was in play, he was just going for the footy.”
BULLDOGS’ BRAND
Wodonga is delighted with the form of youngster Trent Williamson.
“He’s played a lot at the Bushies (Murray Bushrangers) and they obviously play their way, but we’re trying to get him to play our way,” co-captain Jack Russell said.
“We’ve given him jobs the last couple of weeks and he’s doing them and then he’s hurting them with his run.”
