Thurgoona’s Matt Fowler requires a further seven against Tallangatta on Saturday, while Yackandandah’s Trent Castles is eyeing eight during the Roos’ clash with Wodonga Saints at home.
Fowler missed the Bulldogs’ clash with Mitta United last weekend as Castles booted 11 during his side’s 107-point victory over Dederang-Mount Beauty.
The pair played together in Albury’s 2009 Ovens and Murray premiership side and have been applying their trade in the bush in recent seasons.
If Castles reaches the mark, it will be the second time in his career he has kicked a century, after 108 goals for the Roos in 2015.
His best effort before that was 87 back in 2012.
But Fowler has never finished a season with 100 to his name.
In his four years at Thurgoona, he has kicked 53 (2014), 74 (2015) and 37 (2016), before 93 goals in 14 matches this season.
Castles admitted he set himself the goal of booting another ton this season.
“I've been lucky enough that it has worked out so far,” he said.
“I've got some pretty good midfielders in front of me, so that helps.
“I'm definitely more consistent with my goal kicking this year, I've kicked a lot more goals than points which is good.”
“He (Fowler) had a decent lead on me, but luckily he didn't play on the weekend and I could catch up to him.”
Castles admits he has experienced more freedom since passing the coaching reins to Jay and Lee Dale, and, while finals is out of the question, he is confident the Roos can finish well.
Fowler isn’t paying too much attention to the milestone that looms and is focusing on team success.
“It would be nice to get there at some stage because I've never kicked 100 before, but at the moment we're just looking at the finals and hopefully getting into another grand final,” Fowler said.
“I'd be surprised if Trent didn't make it on Saturday and who knows how long it could take me to get there.
“I've had a fairly consistent year with the ball coming into our forward-line really well.
“I have probably kicked straighter as well.”
His previous best is 80 playing for Albury.
Rutherglen will be out to keep its top three chances alive with a win against Chiltern.
Kiewa-Sandy Creek hosts Mitta in a battle of premiership contenders.
Wahgunyah must beat Barnawartha to hold its place in the top three, while Beechworth will chase its sixth win of the season when it faces Dederang-Mount Beauty.
