The Tigers had until 2pm Friday to lodge an appeal with the AFL Victoria Country Appeals Board.
However, club president Stuart Hodgson indicated on Thursday morning the club will appeal.
Schulz was found guilty of engaging in rough conduct against Wodonga Raiders’ star Brodie Filo on Saturday.
Filo had two plates and braces inserted along his bottom row of teeth after breaking his jaw.
Filo had surgery in Bendigo on Sunday night, so he didn’t attend the hearing, but told the tribunal he will miss at least six weeks.
Tribunal chairman Wayne Taylor deemed the conduct was careless and not intentional.
However, he said the punishment should be the same as Filo’s absence.
It’s the longest senior suspension in 15 years.
Albury’s Nick Carroll was outed for the same time for misconduct in the 2002 finals against Wangaratta Rovers.
And Wodonga’s Josh Walker was handed a unique ban in 2010.
For the first time in league history, Walker was suspended for the same number of games John Conroy missed as a result of his broken jaw from that game.
Walker missed five matches.
Albury’s Josh Mellington served a six-match ban at the start of this season.
However, only two weeks was related to charging Lavington’s Will Lenehan in the Tigers’ 40-point win in the grand final.
The other four was as a result of a suspended sentence being invoked from the Goulburn Valley in 2015.
Albury’s appeal for Schulz will cost $2500.
The club must also pay another $3000 but the club can receive it back if the appeal is deemed to be not frivolous.
That money isn’t included in the salary cap as it only relates to what benefits a player financially.
And it’s the same story with any fees paid to high-profile AFL advocate Iain Findlay, who represented Schulz.
The appeal is expected to be heard, potentially in Melbourne, next week, which will be an entirely new hearing.
Albury’s next game is at home against Yarrawonga on August 5.
It’s been a tough two years for Schulz, since leaving GWS in 2015.
He played only two reserves games last year after undergoing a knee reconstruction and has played eight senior matches this season.
