In the three months art gallery and gift store Satch and Co has been open, owner Martha Satchell has been overwhelmed by interest from both locals and visitors.
“We’ve had so many people from each of the cities who stop, come in and say how unique the shop is,” she said.
“I’ve got a sign along the highway and that was how we met one of the artists Simon Buchan; he saw the sign and came in to see what the gallery was like.
“Holbrook does get a lot of travellers; they are looking for shops to have a stroll around in, and I’m hoping more will be opening soon.”
Mrs Satchell has lived in the area for 16 years and while opening an art gallery has always been an aspiration, a plan wasn’t cemented until she spotted an empty shopfront next to J and B’s Gourmet Cafe.
“It was always in the back of my mind and when the ducks lined up, it was perfect timing,” she said.
“It’s always been a dream and I grew up around art.
“Mum was a beautiful watercolour artist … she would be very pleased I’m doing this.”
Artists currently featuring in the gallery include Claire McCall, Ruth de Vos, Melissa Hartley, and Kim Passalaqua, and there are also designer gifts, art books and furniture.
The quirky the better in Mrs Satchell’s eyes – an ‘earaser’ shaped like the one Vincent van Gogh didn’t have – is the kind of product you can expect in her store. Satch and Co is open everyday except Tuesday.
