It won a Silver Medal for its Free Range Naturally Cured Bacon.at the 2017 Australian Food Awards (AFA).
Butt’s Gourmet Smokehouse owners Anthony Ainsworth and Marie Bucher welcomed the result from their first entry in the awards.
“Working closely with our local free range pig providers Karen and Glenn Hadley at Allan’s Flat has also been key to ensuring a high standard and goes to show the quality of raw materials available from North East farmers,” Mr Ainsworth said.
Having taken over the boutique smokehouse in April 2016, Mr Ainsworth said the bacon was smoked over red gum.
“We use a natural cure which is high in antioxidants and brings out the distinct flavours,” he said.
“For people concerned about synthetic nitrates we can address this.”
The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria runs the AFA annually.
Butt’s Free Range Naturally Cured Bacon is available in store, Albury Wodonga Farmers’ Market, Holbrook IGA and Knights Meats & Deli at Wagga.
