Shelley Kelly won a First in Category and a Highly Commended for her work in the Victorian Quilters Inc Quilt Showcase in Melbourne recently.
A pattern-maker by trade, Mrs Kelly opened Skellywag Sewing School at Barnawartha almost four years ago.
She got hooked on patchwork about two decades ago when she took her first class.
“It’s so creative and I love the colours,” she said.
“I love working out the patterns and the mathematics behind it.
“Old quilts inspire me the most; the workmanship they did back then when they had very little was amazing.”
Mrs Kelly teaches sewing and quilting Tuesday to Friday and some Saturdays at The Joy Bus at Barnawartha
About 40 quilts will be on show at the fourth Indigo Quilt Show at The Joy Bus on August 25-27. Proceeds go to Alzheimer’s Australia.
The first-placed quilt Mariner’s Compass was quilted by Rowdy Flat Quilting while the highly-commended Follow Me, in collaboration with Jan Manglesdorf, was quilted by Pandora Quilting.
