Barby had been a tower of strength before breaking his hand with coach Ben Jeffery forced to switch Jeremy Hampton from a wing to lock.
While Jeffery was under an injury cloud earlier in the week, the triple Thunder premiership star has declared himself fit to take on his former club.
Thunder need to win to grab a berth in the elimination final while Kangaroos will qualify with a win or draw, providing Brothers come up short against ladder leader Southcity.
The pace of Jeffery, Tristan Lynch and Jack Lyons shapes as the biggest threat to Thunder coach Josh Cale.
Lynch, in particular, was outstanding at Greenfield Park earlier in the season with several of his breaks setting up the 32-18 victory.
In-form forward Billy Ryder will attempt to set the tone up the middle while Andrew Smith and Levi Freeman must also fire.
The match starts at 2.30pm.
