Myrtleford does league title aspirations no harm with strong performance against Albury City

A 6-0 drubbing of Albury City at Savoy Park has brought Myrtleford within touching distance of capturing the AWFA senior men’s league title.

The Savoys still hold a three-point buffer ahead of Albury United and face Wodonga Heart and Boomers in the final two rounds.

United won a scrappy contest, 3-1, at home to Albury Hotspurs to keep its slim league hopes intact.

Evan Rawluk’s goal in the 65th minute for Melrose was all that separated them and Wodonga Diamonds in the 1-0 victory.

Adam Burchell took another giant stride towards breaking Zac Walker’s all-time goal scoring record with five in the Devils’ 8-0 victory against St Pats – seeing his season tally move to 45.

Cobram beat Twin City 7-2 and Boomers thrashed Wodonga Heart 6-0.

The ladder after round 20 is: Myrtleford 50, Albury United 47, Cobram 44, Wangaratta 40, Boomers 32, Melrose 32, Albury City 30, Albury Hotspurs 23, Twin City 21, Wodonga Diamonds 18, St Pats 10, Wodonga Heart 0.
