The six apprentices competed for the chance to represent the Riverina/Murray team at the Worldskills national competition next year.
Competitors had to construct two meals, a main and a dessert, in four-and-a-half hours using five basic ingredients for each dish.
Head judge Fiona Bance said entries were facing a rigorous marking process.
“It’s important practice for them – it’s important to test their work skills, organisational skills and manage their stress levels in the kitchen,” she said.
“We had six quite different dishes in each course.
“I thought they did very well – there were lots of different components, different textures and colours on the plate.
“The winner from today will go on to the national competition.
“Our region has had success before, one of the judges came second at nationals a few years ago.”
