BJR’s Tim Slade and Erebus’s David Reynolds blew theirs while in contention to ruin their races, while Slade’s teammate Nick Percat looked after his and had a great result, finishing sixth on Sunday.
Reynolds was the top performer of the weekend with two top 10 finishes, cementing 8th place in the Championship.
He was comfortably third late in Saturday’s race, and on for his second podium finis of the year, when he got tangled up in a collision between Shane Van Gisbergen and Scott McLaughlin, who were running first and second.
His Commodore sustained huge damage to both the front and the back, but he drove on to secure 8th .
“I got a good start and was in a big battle, but I just couldn’t hold onto it and ended up making only one spot,” Reynolds said.
“My car felt really good and we pitted early to undercut everyone and I ended up third.
“I got caught in the mess of the restart after a safety car, we had the front and back stoved in, but I was still able to finish in eighth.”
BRJ’s Nick Percat enjoyed being back at the front on Sunday after his Saturday was ruined by debris getting stuck in the air intake on his ACDelco backed Commodore, pushing his engine temperature through the roof.
After a quick stop pushed him back to 25th but set the fastest lap of the race, breaking the lap record and showing what could have been.
A steady, mature drive saw him finish a strong sixth on Sunday.
“Today’s result is an awesome credit to the guys and girls in the team,” he said.
“We had an issue with the car yesterday and the guys worked hard to find and fix it overnight and get us back up where we needed to be.
“These guys just don’t give up, they are pure racers and continue to work hard to get me up the front.
“I’m leaving Sydney pretty happy with what we’ve achieved to and looking forward to getting into the endurance races ahead.”
