While the handwritten note – which was left in a Black Street letterbox two weekends ago – is of interest to detectives, they need further information.
The home was targeted during a break-in on March 12, 2015, with 15 rifles and shotguns stolen.
Detective Sergeant Graeme Simpfendorfer said 14 guns were still unaccounted for.
“We're looking at that letter,” he said.
“We're asking whoever wrote that note to contact us directly so we can ask the pertinent questions as to what, when and how.
“That investigation is still open and we're still looking at that very closely.
“There are 14 firearms that remain outstanding that we still haven't recovered.”
The stolen guns were linked to members of a group dubbed the T-shirt gang.
Detective Sergeant Simpfendorfer said the best way for the note writer to make contact was directly through the Wodonga station or Crime Stoppers.
“Sometimes people think that the best thing they can do is to write a letter in that format,” he said.
“We find obviously the best way to get information to us is directly, whether via Crime Stoppers or by ringing the police station direct.”
Detective Sergeant Simpfendorfer said there were further questions he needed to have answered.
The man who owned the guns has previously told The Border Mail the weapons were family heirlooms.
