The incident occurred about 1.15pm on Tuesday on Beechworth Wodonga Road.
A bike rider had been travelling towards Wodonga when he was passed by a man in a white van.
The driver – who appeared to be aged in his 50s – drove past the rider in the same lane.
He yelled at the victim and returned to the scene and angrily confronted the bike rider.
The man’s bicycle was run over by the van.
The Wodonga victim was not harmed, but his $2500 bicycle was badly damaged.
Leading Senior Constable Jim Smeeton said police were keen to speak to anyone with information.
The incident occurred at Leneva.
“There has been a fair bit of damage to the bicycle,” he said.
“Just the bike got damaged – the victim wasn’t hurt.
