Border businesses and families will feel relief as high energy prices drop due to a limit on gas exports, said Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
Mr Turnbull said gas prices had gone up massively since a “failure of policy” by a previous Federal and Queensland state Labor government who allowed gas exports.
He said the decision caused a gas shortage domestically, forcing businesses and families to pay more.
The Prime Minister said the limits would begin next year but the market was already responding and prices would come down.
“We’re determined to ensure there will always be enough gas for the domestic market,” he said
“It’s a vitally important part of policy and the price of gas feeds into the price of electricity, what we’re doing on gas will take the pressure of electricity.
“Of course because the market can see it coming people are building it into their price and expectations.”
He said the government was providing businesses with tax cuts which were real incentives for regional investment.
Overall Forge said their energy bills had cost them almost $1.4million a year, and caused them to lose business.
Mr Turnbull said they would also ensure energy companies communicated better with customers.
The Prime Minster said the government was backing region manufacturing.

“If you get more investment, you get more jobs,” Mr Turnbull said.
“We’re looking forward to more investment in regional manufacturing across the nation, because that deliver more jobs.”
Mr Turnbull also addressed the High Court examination of the parliamentary dual-citizenship issue.
“I’m very very confident out members who have been caught up in this will be her by the court as eligible to sit in parliament and to be ministers,” he said.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull will be in Albury-Wodonga today to talk about energy prices, the inland rail as well as pay a visit to an engineering business on the border.
Speaking with The Border’s Triple M this morning, Mr Turnbull said the central focus of his visit would be to discuss Australia’s energy problem.
“Gas prices are too high, they’ve gone up because of a failure of policy. How can we have expensive gas in Australia, given we produce so much?”

Visy’s presence in Wodonga is set for a major boost following the company’s $2 billion investment program announced.
Company chairman Anthony Pratt was joined by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull in revealing details of the program which will create an additional 5000 manufacturing jobs over the next decade.
A company spokesman confirmed Wodonga would “benefit from the capital spending program”, but was unable to release details.
The company anticipates the multiplier effect of its $2 billion investment to create 5000 manufacturing jobs directly will be the creation of an additional 13,000 indirect jobs plus about 14,000 construction jobs.
“More investment means more jobs” Mr Turnbull said.
“Businesses have got to manage their own affairs, but I think the track record of Visy is one of constant investment.”
In 2011, Visy successfully fought plans for a low-density housing estate to be created on the hill behind the West Wodonga factory.
