The Devils host the in-form Cobram on Sunday, but can’t be shifted from fourth position regardless of the result.
However, a win for Cobram will see it remain second on the league table.
Wangaratta midfielder Raff Molinaro said the side has shown plenty of consistency heading into this year’s cup finals and is confident they can finish well.
“Sitting fourth, especially with the way we played against the top sides like (Albury) United and Myrtleford, we’re coming in confident,” Molinaro said.
“We’ve been playing well at home lately and Cobram is going to give us a good indication of how we’re going to go in finals and the cup final hopefully.”
Riley Hamilton missed last weekend’s clash with Twin City due to an ongoing hamstring complaint, but will be given the rest of the week to prove his fitness.
If he isn’t available, coach Connor Heffernan could face a potential headache in recalling key defender Stoycho Ivanov at his own expense to shore up the backline against a dangerous Cobram attacking third.
“When we played against them at Cobram, we could see they were a quality side and they’re up there with United and Myrtleford, so we’re not taking them lightly,” Molinaro said.
In the remaining final round matches, eighth spot is on the line for Twin City if it can beat St Pats at home, however, it must rely on Albury Hotspurs losing or drawing to Melrose.
Myrtleford can relax when it faces Boomers at Glen Park knowing it has already wrapped up the league title after last weekend’s drubbing of Wodonga Heart.
Albury City will start slight favourites against Wodonga Diamonds at La Trobe, while Albury United should be too strong for Wodonga Heart.
