The 27th event is the largest snow sports competition in the southern hemisphere.
Competitors from 22 countries and five continents took to the cross country courses, with Saturday’s premier event spanning 42 kilometres.
The skiers set off in waves in one-minute intervals across the Bogong High Plains, travelling through wilderness areas without roads.
United States racer Miles Havlick edged out Australian competitor Phillip Bellingham to take out the main event by a tiny margin.
Australian racer Barbara Jezersek comfortably won the ladies title.
Former Winter Olympians took part in the race at the elite level.
Organisers said it was one of the best events in the history of the race, with deep snow levels and blue skies.
Competitors as young as five took part, with many donning colourful costumes.
