They’ll have a bit more responsibility when they hit the hills in Cairns next week – they'll be representing the green and gold.
The duo have been selected to represent Australia at the UCI World Mountain Bike Championships, which get underway on September 5.
Having worked their way onto the junior team thanks to a string of strong results at events both on home soil and overseas, Zwar said he was excited to represent the country.
“I'm pretty excited to make the team, especially as a top age guy,” he said.
“To be able to race on our home country at this level, I'm just so happy..
“We've been doing our best in the national and Victorian series and had some good results, then heading overseas for the world cup events has probably led up to it.”
This year will mark the second time Zwar has been picked, firmly establishing him as one of the country's rising stars.
In Carter, his older brother Oliver and fellow national representative Dean Lucas, Zwar said the level of talent on the Border was growing.
“It's cool to have locals guys you can race and practice with,” he said.
“I haven't known Matt for too long, but I've done world cup meets with Oliver and I'm always riding with and learning from Dean.
“Oliver was the one who started racing, I've always sort of copied him and through that I just got more and more into it.”
Zwar and Carter will leave for Cairns next Monday in preparation for the championships, but they've already had a chance to come to grips with the track.
“We had a training camp up there last week, we've had the chance to ride the track and memorise the lines,” Zwar said.
“We won't have to worry too much about learning many new things, we've got a good understanding of the terrain.
“We're looking forward to getting out there.”
