On the heels of our Regional Building Awards a couple of months ago, the builders and communities of Albury-Wodonga have earned more recognition for their achievements in construction.
Earlier this year, I was happy to let you know that Zauner Construction P/L has been named the Regional Commercial Builder of the Year North East for their work on the Trinity Anglican College New Senior School in Elizabeth Mitchell Drive in Thurgoona.
But since then, three more commercial projects, in Wodonga, have earned a spot in the limelight at the state Excellence in Construction Awards in Melbourne.
For Dutch Media, Connelly Construction Services built a state-of-the-art production facility that complements its heritage-listed sibling next door in High Street.
It expresses an industrial but sympathetic character through the use of a dark palette and timber lining with decorative timber details, and won the award for excellence in construction of commercial buildings under $1 million (North East).
Connelly also won the award for excellence in construction of commercial buildings from $3 to 6 million (North East) for their execution of the Upper Murray Family Care new head office.
This is a double-storey structure required to link and complement adjoining offices built in the early 1900s.
And Premier Building and Construction Pty Ltd received a special commendation for excellence in construction of building $3 to 6 million (North East) for their construction of a new administration building for Wodonga West Primary School.
The interior includes some interesting surface finishes such as hoop pine, artificial turf ramps and plywood laminate, but the project also required careful management of students and staff as they operated around the construction zone.
I’m glad to be able to share this information with you, because it helps to illuminate aspects of the buildings in your neighbourhood—and that you or your children may even use—that could otherwise go overlooked and underappreciated for the quality they represent.
Albury-Wodonga consistently presents itself as the setting for some of the best building in the state of Victoria, and I look forward to sharing the results of the Excellence in Housing Awards later this year.
