A dominant display from the Demons saw them outclass Bullioh 20.7 (127) to 10.5 (65) in the decider at Corryong on Saturday.
Corryong broke the game open with eight unanswered goals in the second term to leave the Bulldogs reeling.
Three first quarter goals from Nathan Grimes gave the Demons the edge at the first break, but their 47-point lead at the main break was always going to be tough to turn around.
Bullioh showed patches of the form that won it the minor premiership during the third quarter, but ultimately were only able to peg one goal back to still trail by 42 points at the final change.
Corryong wrestled back the momentum with the first four goals of the last quarter as the celebrations drew closer.
Minutes later, the final siren sounded and with it, the Demons’ 12-year premiership drought had evaporated.
Corryong’s Evan Nicholas was finally able to lift the premiership cup as a coach after the heartbreak of losing the last four he’s played in.
“We lost in 2014 and 2016, but this year we set our goals and we knew we had to beat Bullioh,” Nicholas said.
“They’re a really good side and we had to work really hard on defending first and once we defended we could attack because we had some really good talls.
“We’ve beaten them the last three times, so we had a fair bit of confidence, but we weren’t over confident.
“There was 15 from last year’s grand final side playing today and five new guys, but only two of them hadn’t played in the side previously, which gave us good depth.
“We’ve struggled every week to get a side and had to rely on three or four reserves every week to come up and play two games, so we’ve been really big on supporting and respecting them because they’ve got us here.”
Bullioh co-coach Clint Ried’s simply admitted his side was outplayed.
“They had the wood over us the last couple of games,” Ried said.
“They beat us pretty well at the stoppages, which was disappointing.
“It’s a young team, our average age is probably 22 or 23, so we’ll stick together and bounce back next year.”
In the day’s other results, Bullioh won a thrilling reserves grand final 12.7 (79) to 11.8 (74) against Federal.
Federal forward Matthew Jones had a set shot to level the scores inside the final minute, but was just offline.
The under 16s grand final was dominated by Federal, 12.13 (85) to 5.2 (32) over Tumbarumba, while Corryong beat Tumbarumba in the under 13s decider, coming away with an 11.12 (78) to 1.1 (7) triumph.
Bullioh proved a dominant force on the netball court, beating Federal 48-34 in the A grade, after securing the B grade premiership 41-35 against Corryong.
Federal scraped home over Corryong 25-23 in the C grade netball grand final and had an even closer call in the D grade decider, edging out Bullioh 25-24.
Corryong rounded out the netball results with a 43-16 victory against Federal to win the under 15s premiership.
