Albury has posted 16 straight wins and Wangaratta its last eight.
In 2010, the Tigers racked up 17 successive victories, while Yarrawonga also snared eight heading into the grand final qualifier.
Albury and Wangaratta will meet at Wodonga’s John Flower Oval on Saturday, while long-time finals rivals Yarrawonga and Lavington clash in the first semi at Corowa’s John Foord Oval on Sunday.
Wangaratta hammered Yarrawonga by 76 points in the qualifying final, while Lavington ended Wodonga Raiders’ season with a seven-goal win.
Not surprisingly, the weekend’s winners didn’t have a poor performer.
“We didn’t really have a non-contributor and we freshen up and take on Albury,” Wangaratta coach Dean Stone said.
Wangaratta is unlikely to have star forward Michael Newton, who injured his hamstring, while Lavington’s Adam Prior didn’t face Raiders.
“It was precautionary, I just tweaked my knee last week in the first half and struggled to get up,” Prior said.
“I did everything right during the week but it wasn’t quite right.
“There’s nothing I can do for it, but next week, I should be right and I’m raring to go.”
