Border Mail photographers were there to capture that exciting moment, and every milestone from the campaign to bring the centre to life, to construction and opening days.
Since then, more than 50,000 appointment, therapy sessions or consultations have been undertaken.
An Albury Wodonga spokeswoman said the centre employs more than 200 residents and residents had volunteered 12,000 hours.
She said because of the centre residents in Albury-Wodonga and beyond have access to state of the art equipment and 70 different clinical trials in their own backyard.
“It’s an absolute credit to the community,” she said.
“They fought so hard for it and the centre has proven that it is an essential piece of infrastructure – it’s proven it’s worth its weight in gold.”
Albury Wodonga Health said the centre has allowed those with cancer to receive treatment without travelling.
