DESPITE police fears for her escalating violent behaviour, a woman linked to a toddler’s death has been released on bail after being arrested on five warrants.
Police caught Mandy Martyn, 50, driving in Kiewa on Thursday morning, and within five hours a magistrate had let her go despite an erratic and foulmouthed court appearance.
Senior Constable Ben Stewart said Martyn had told officers she “needs to be forcibly arrested and brought before the courts”, otherwise she wouldn’t appear.
She shouted that she did not follow “white law” as it was a “farce”, and said she knew she would only get a slap on the wrist if she pleaded guilty to charges.
Martyn has been actively avoiding police, the court heard, with 17 charges pending against her for assaults, reckless conduct endangering death and driving matters.
A coroner previously found the Thoona woman killed two-year-old Daniel Thomas in Myrtleford in 2003.
She claimed the current police case against her was “ a whole heap of crap and lies” and asked “where are the f---in’ witnesses to say this?” after the allegations were aired.
Martyn allegedly used her thumb to eye-gouge a man after entering his Wodonga home on January 27.
She is accused of overtaking a vehicle near Wangaratta on August 4 last year, slowing down and stopping, before ramming the car by reversing into it, spinning her tyres.
The victims were left fearful by the incident, with the vehicle allegedly pushed back two metres by Martyn’s car.
She allegedly confronted a neighbour last week, and performed burnouts at a neighbour’s home in May last year.
Police noted she was extremely confrontational with officers and members of the public with concerns her behaviour was escalating, leading to fears for the safety of the public.
“Your white law is nothing but a farce,” she told magistrate David Faram.
She claimed to be a “sick old woman”, described the media as “hound dogs” following a recent appeal for information, and said she had gone to either heaven or hell after recently dying.
Mr Faram released her to reappear next Tuesday.
