Sustainable House Day | Border and North East properties open doors on September 17, 2017

A HEMP house at Rutherglen and a renovated tobacco kiln at Gapsted are among properties throwing open their doors on Sunday.

Six of the region’s leading green homes will participate in Sustainable House Day.

Rutherglen Hemp House is a passive solar-designed, concrete-free home made from Hempcrete with lime render, including most of the internal walls.

Other properties include Alatalo Bros Enviro 9 display home at Thurgoona; an energy-efficient home in Central Park Wodonga; Yr Ogof Ddyn – Welsh for the Man Cave, a clay house at Wilby; and a Solar Skillion Sleepout at Benalla.

Not-for-profit organisation Alternative Technology Association hosts the event between 10am and 4pm.

In 2016, 17,287 people visited 154 homes across Australia.
