Wangaratta’s Joe Richards tormented the Pigeons with his pace and pressure.
“My role was to hang around Josh Porter and I got told not to leave the 50 (metre area),” he said.
“So I was just getting at his feet and trying to work off him as much as I could.
“The focus was to put a lot of pressure on and just harrass really.”
The 17-year-old has played less than 20 games, but he defied his inexperience, kicking two goals.
He cleverly roamed the pack late in the second quarter to regain the lead and soon snared his second.
