Having won six premierships, multiple Tiger best and fairests and a Did Simpson medal in a glittering career at the Albury Sportsground, Hyde polled 18 votes to edge out Brodie Filo, Mark Whiley and Jarrod Hodgkin for the league's highest individual honour.
Check every vote from every game of the 2017 Ovens and Murray season here:
Hyde held a four-point lead at the halfway mark and, despite polling only four votes in the run home, held on to win with 18.
Wodonga Raiders’ wizard Filo, Wodonga’s Hodgkin and pre-count favourite Whiley, of Yarrawonga, finished equal second on 16.
Filo missed the last four rounds after he broke his jaw against Albury in round 14.
It was the lowest winning total since Raiders’ Dustin Burns and Yarrawonga’s Tim Hargreaves polled 17 in 2002.
Wingman Hyde polled in eight games, picking up four best on grounds.
He failed to attract a vote in the final round win over Myrtleford, meaning Hodgkin required a best on ground to draw level, while Whiley needed two votes.
