All this talk about closing coal fired plants and global warming is in ignorance of one very important and relatively unknown fact that the world seems to be overlooking.

The Chinese Hills are made of limestone and as the rivers flow through the Chinese hills something happens that we have no control over.
Limestone is made up of CO2, and the rivers passing under them and through them are releasing millions of tonnes of CO2 into the air every minute of the day and night.
When the rivers exit the Chinese hills, they contain the highest level of CO2 in the world.
So, what difference are we going make by reducing our very minute amount of CO2 into the air, compared to the Chinese hills?
This is not to mention that an even grater threat to global warming is methane gas, which the world releases in God knows how many tonnes a years.
About time we put it all in perspective, isn't it?
Nature is the biggest contributor to the gases being released into the atmosphere and we can't change nature.

Trust us, this stinks
We live in Tuakau, a small country town north of Hamilton, North Island, New Zealand.
We have a composting facility, Envirofert Ltd, 1.5km away from our property.
After hearing that a compost site had been approved in Howlong, we feel the residents of Howlong need to hear how this will affect their lives, property values and quality of life.
We were not given the chance in Tuakau to have this facility to be approved or not.
Waikato Regional Council gave Envirofert the right to operate in 2009, composting on a non-notifiable basis, meaning the community was not informed.
This compost facility is a neighbour of Tuakau Protein rendering plant and the councils always put all the odour producing facilities together so they blame each other for the stench.
Like Robyn Kelly of Panmure stated “you have to live this life to believe it”.
Horrific stench from rotting waste, leachate, smelly trucks, dust that covers everything, washing has to be rewashed.
Councils, after the first 10 phone complaints, do not want to know you,. You are a nuisance and you are the problem, not the odour producing facility.
Summertime is extremely bad as flies come with the compost, seagulls everywhere and house windows cannot be opened.
Furniture and curtains retain the stench so the whole house stinks.
Councils give these facilities resource consents only to add many other operations later.
This is a worldwide problem and if you Google composting issues you will see this problem everywhere.
Composting cannot be done without horrific stench, they will try to convince you otherwise.
Howlong residents, you need to fight this now as after is too late.
People power can be strong and can make a change.
This composting facility in Howlong will impact on your life like you have never known, take a lesson from the people living within 5km of these horrific stench facilities.
