Celebrity chef James Reeson was speaking during filming for his cooking program Alive and Cooking at Arnold’s Fruit Market in Wodonga on Thursday.
Having migrated to Australia a decade ago, the British-born chef said he loved the country’s fresh produce.
“The local produce in general across Australia is alarmingly amazing,” he said.
“I’ve definitely fallen in love with Australian fish too; the Murray cod is terrific.”
The father-of-two cooked a pork dish with parsnip and apple chips, a lamb dish with a Greek salad and a pumpkin stir-fry at Arnold’s Fruit Market.
Alive and Cooking also filmed with Riverina Dairy at Noreuil Park on Monday, Yalandra Fine Foods at Mitta Valley on Tuesday and Henty Machinery Field Days on Wednesday.
The Arnold’s segment will air on WIN in November to coincide with its 125th anniversary celebrations.
Having grown up on a dairy farm near Bath in England, Reeson said he slipped into cooking after leaving school.
He said there were a lot of butchers in his extended family and his mum was a good cook.
“Being capable and able in the kitchen is a life skill you should have,” he said.
“You can feed yourself forever, it’s such a familial thing and it’s all-encompassing; food is the one thing we all have in common.”
