With Russ away, you have me writing this column for a few weeks and those who know, realise I have a bit of time up my sleeve (re: last week’s column).
Finally the recent and seemingly endless run of cold wet days with just the odd clear warm one to tease us, seems to be coming to an end.
Reports of quality Yellas should really start moving during the weekend if the weather holds out.
Lake Hume is without doubt one of the best local destinations to snare a thumping Yella and there are still reports of trophy Browns being trolled up on Wigstons as well with Hayden Burles hooking an impressive fish.
Common Sense 1: Boat etiquette
There is no reason that any issue should escalate into something that ends up in loud words or threats.
Have a couple of anglers in recent weeks complaining about anglers spending too much time on the boat ramp when either putting in or retrieving their boats.
I think all anglers need to use a little bit of patience and common sense. There is no reason that any issue should escalate into something that ends up in loud words or threats.
First anglers should get their boat ready to put in and secured when finished, up away from the water’s edge. We all know this takes time and those anglers who are in such a hurry must have a little more patience and understanding with fellow anglers.
Common Sense 2: Safety gear
Very simple one this, we all have the required safety gear when going out in a boat, but not so much walking a stream, how many of us have a simple first aid kit within easy reach?
I have bought a second one which is portable and can fit inside my tackle box while walking a stream and I’m going to invest in a small portable EPIRB for stream fishing as well.
Common Sense 3: Keep it clean
After being closed all winter Berembed Weir Reserve will open this weekend.
This reserve was closed as anglers didn’t take their rubbish back with them and from some stupid four wheel drive owners trying turn the reserve into a proving ground.
If you see something out of the ordinary there please tell the authorities and just take your trash out when you leave.
Lake Hume Classic
Don’t forget to fill out and send off your entry forms to this well run competition on the weekend of October 14 and 15.
Entry forms are available online and at all good tackle and camping retailers.
Out they come
Was a brief but timely mention from an angler fishing the King river, as he had three separate encounters with a couple of Brown and Tiger snakes so take care when walking around the water’s edge.
