Treasurer Amanda Dakos said the funding allowed the group to expand its offerings, with this weekend’s exhibition to take place at the Mirambeena Community Centre for the first time.
“This year we’ve got the play area for children to build and we’ve also got some vendors selling lego sets and parts,” she said.
“We’ve got lots of themes happening but we have a fair bit happening around Ninjago – we’ll also have a raffle and a guessing competition so kids can win a set.
“These were some of the things the community said they’d like to see in feedback from last year.”
Ms Dakos said there were 25 exhibitors this year, with some travelling from Newcastle, Canberra and Adelaide.
“They will be bringing all the big displays you see at the city shows,” she said.
“We had nearly 1000 people last year at the Thurgoona Community Centre, so we’re hoping to get 2000 or 3000 people this year.”
AWLUG has been holding events since 2015 and Ms Dakos said there were plans to establish activities for younger lego fans.
“The group is for adult fans of lego and once we’ve raised some money from this event, we hope to set up a group for children,” she said.
Murray River Bricks 2017 will be open at Mirambeena from 9am to 5pm on Saturday and from 9am to 4pm on Sunday.
Entry prices for adults are $8 and $5 for children.
