“Over the last couple of years, council has had numerous complaints from our communities and visitors concerning the large number of wasps at community events, outside eating areas and at functions,” a report stated.
“Wasps are now being considered more than just a nuisance pest by our communities in Beechworth and Yackandandah and may cause a reduction in tourism numbers.”
It recommended expanding a method used in Yackandandah in the lead up to the town’s Folk Festival, where bait stations with meat and poison were placed in a grid around the town centre and monitored every two days.
This would be done in conjunction with a public awareness campaign.
Councillors will consider the wasp control plan at Tuesday’s meeting, to be held at the Council Chambers in Beechworth from 6.30pm.
