This time he used an article from Nature Geoscience (a reputable peer-reviewed journal) to claim that it “has confirmed what US climate expert John Christie – it’s actually Christy but that’s only a minor error – has been saying for years: computer models over-estimate expected global heating.”

First I would have to ask did Mike actually read the article or did he get his report second-hand from The Daily Telegraph who ran the story?

John Christy is a favourite of Republican congressmen and they trot him out whenever they wish to hold a hearing to deny climate change.

But he uses cherry-picked and error-ridden charts and data and all he ends up showing is that the warming is occurring slightly slower than the models have predicted but the warming is occurring.

So there is an element of truth in what Christy is saying and Mike Burston is repeating, but we need to accept that warming is definitely occurring.

I don't know if  other readers are as irritated as I am but the “yes” vote campaign for same-sex marriage being literally pushed in my face at every turn is annoying me and many others, from what I have read on social media.

Texts to my phone, advertisements on television and door-knocking do not endear me to voting “yes”, and the opposite is happening in many places, I believe.

 If I did intend to vote yes, I would certainly have changed it to no after all that invasion of my privacy.

The debate from our state and federal politicians going on about the price of gas is a disgrace.

For over 10 years both sides of politics knew that the price of gas had to increase but sat on their hands leaving it to future governments to resolve.

They all knew that the reserves of cheap gas were running low and to continue supply at the present levels the price of gas had to increase.

If federal and state governments had increased the price by a modest amount over 10 years ago and forced gas companies to explore and develop the marginal fields, the issue today would not exist.

Note overseas countries saw all this untapped gas and offered a realistic price so the LNG (Liquid Natural Gas) industry in the eastern states commence.

The federal and state governments along with the medias need to promote a vision for the future instead of following this cheap popular politics model which is vogue these days. 

I write in reply to the letter from Brendan Bergin, of Wodonga (‘Plane and simple, we were treated very poorly’, The Border Mail, September 28).

His experience flying Virgin was ridiculous and frustrating.
