After experiencing its best campaign in its three-year history this season with a top-five finish in the league, new coach Elliot Jones’ priority was to maintain the bulk of the current squad.

Dunn, the club’s captain, overlooked offers from rival clubs to commit to another season on the Border.

The Englishman admitted it was Jones’ vision of creating a family-friendly environment that was the deciding factor. 

“He wants to create a family atmosphere which is perfect for me having a young family,” Dunn said.

“We’re training two or three nights and week and playing Saturday, so it’s good to get the families on board.

“I’ve got a little girl now, so every decision is based on her, I can’t be selfish.

“I’m delighted to stay and hopefully we have another good season.”

Dunn said the playing group has great respect for Jones as a coach. 

“There was rumours of Elliot taking over as coach, so we spoke as players and most are feeling positive and hoping to sign for next season,” he said.

“He’s probably one of the best man managers I’ve every been involved with.”

Walker hopes he can stay a Murray United player until the day he retires.

“Living in my home town and still playing at the highest level here, I can’t see myself playing anywhere else,” Walker said.

“There’s been positive changes to club and only good things can happen from here.

“I think it’s a good thing for the community because it shows you can bring your family and put on a good show to have a really good family vibe around the club.”

Defender Alex West admitted it was a big decision to make given the club will be in a transition year under a new coach, but he didn’t hesitate to sign.

“Elliot is a well-known coach in the area and has been successful throughout his whole career,” West said.

“I had him has an under 20s coach in 2014, so having known him previously and his experience, I was more than willing to sign.”
