In a fairytale start to life in the top grade, the competition newcomer won the four rinks with skip Rob Bartel leading the way.
Bartel, supported by Don Driver, Rob Reid and Allan Beer, defeated Rob Tait’s rink 47-12.
Jude Bartel accounted for Ian Woods 35-12, Geoff Kidd edged out Tim Cromie 23-22 and Dale Mastenbroek defeated Kevin Evans 35-12.
Team manager Don Driver said the club was shocked by the winning margin.
“We’re pretty ecstatic,” Driver said.
“The club is really proud to make it into A1 and then to do what we did on Saturday was incredible.
“I guess we were pretty apprehensive going into Saturday as we just wanted to make sure we were competitive.
“We proved to be more than that.”
Remarkably, Kiewa Valley has gone from B4 to A1 in the past six seasons with less than 40 pennant bowlers.
Driver said the club wasn’t getting carried away with the performance.
“It was a really good start,” he said.
“You can’t ask for much more than to win four rinks.
“Yarrawonga-Border will be tough on their home greens next weekend.”
Corowa Civic won a thriller against Wodonga 93-87 at Wodonga.
Col Hendren took the honours against Paul Davies 26-20, Max Scanlan edged out Peter McLarty 26-21 and Thomas Webb accounted for Ashley Bates 24-20.
Wodonga stayed in touch on the back of Josh Rudd’s 26-17 victory over Dawn Hayman.
The trip to Wodonga brought back fond memories for Corowa Civic after they won last year’s grand final on the greens.
Benalla proved too strong for Wangaratta, winning 112-78.
Chris Cooney led the way with a 30-17 win over Ian Brimblecombe, Rob Mitchell defeated Trevor Selwood 32-21 and Matt Robertson upstaged Maurie Braden 29-19.
Shawn McMahon and Greg McDonald played a 21-all draw.
YMGCR thrashed Rutherglen 125-61.
Les Spencer scored the biggest win of the day defeating Chris Langdon 36-15.
Rod Jones accounted for Graeme Goudie 25-17, James Lefevre was a comfortable 30-12 victor over Ian Baskett and Garry Sanders rolled Bill Campbell 34-17.
