Aspiring writers entered in poetry and short story categories, with Shadeira Candy of Billabong High winning the year 7/8 poetry, Albury High’s Will Dawson and Wodonga Middle Years’ Maddison Spear splitting the year 9/10 poetry, while Albury High duo Jessica Jarald and McKenas Davies won the years 7/8 and 9/10 short story competitions respectively.
Mr Young said he was thrilled with the number and standard of entries.
“We had nearly 500 entries, compared to when we started with five schools and about 78 entries,” he said.
“To see it grow like this is unbelievable.
“This year, the short stories were brilliant.”
