The Tallangatta 50’s Festival brings together people from all around Australia to celebrate life in the 1950’s, so, get ready to ‘rock on’ and enjoy some of Australia’s finest unique rock n roll entertainment, fashion, music and automotive history.
The Fifties Festival has been running since 1999 and in that time has had some fabulous acts including the Delltones, Frankie J Holden, Little Pattie, Lonnie Lee, Wilbur Wilde plus many more.
The Rotary Club of Tallangatta has organised the event for the past four years and any profits generated are donated back to the community or used to further the projects of Rotary at National and International level.
”Rock n rollers from all over Australia just love the Tallangatta 50’s Festival and keep coming back for more every year,” said Rotary club member Manny Chessari.
This year the world’s number one Elvis tribute artist Dean Vegas will headline the show on Sunday. He will be supported by The Rockin Daddys and Maurice Milano & The Rumour.
The compare for the Sunday concert will be the fabulous and entertaining Steve Bowen.
“Don’t just come for the day,” said Manny. “Make a weekend of it. Visitors can enjoy good food in town and plenty of refreshments are on offer at the Victoria and Tallangatta Hotels on Saturday night before the big night out.
“There’s more than just the music over the weekend – and one of the stores in the main street will showcase historical displays featuring great laminex, visual art, household appliances and an eclectic kaleidoscope of life in the 50’s.
“We’ll have 50’s classic cars and motorcycles that are a hit with car buffs from all around Australia. We’ll also have some craft stalls, carnival rides and fun for the kids.”
Tickets to the Saturday night show in the Memorial Halls are $20 and tickets to the Sunday show are also $20 with kids under 18 free. You can pre-purchase both tickets together for $35 and save $5.
Tallangatta is a rural township located on picturesque Lake Hume in the Towong Shire, north-east Victoria, approximately half an hour’s drive from Albury/Wodonga. This unique township was relocated in the 50’s to enable profitable irrigation opportunities for a rich farming district further downstream. Today, Tallangatta resembles a typical town of the 50’s retaining a safe and rural environment for families to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
However, on the last weekend in October the population swells dramatically as the town rocks on and celebrates life in the 50’s.
Headline act at the Tallangatta Fifties Festival, Dean Vegas is one of the best Elvis tribute artists in the world, say organisers, and does everything in his power to keep the legend of Elvis Presley alive.
Dean was recently in the USA with a group of Aussie Elvis fans for the “Tribute to Elvis Tour” which coincides with the forty year anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley. The tour took in Memphis including Gracelands, as well Nashville.
What an awesome treat for Elvis lovers! The tour also visited Tupelo which is the birthplace of Elvis and whilst there, Dean was presented with a special award from the “Silver Moon Club” and the city of Tupelo which recognises Dean’s relentless pursuit to keep the memory of Elvis alive.
So, Tallangatta Fifties Festival, batten down the hatches because Dean Vegas is on his way!
Rotary Club member Manny Chessari said Vegas will be bringing with him a group of enthusiasts/supporters from Southport (Queensland) to soak up the atmosphere on Sunday October 29 in the triangles at Tallangatta.
“Deans attention to detail is fantastic and his appearance and wardrobe certainly bring Elvis to life in all of his performances,” he said.
“Couple this with a genuine “sound alike” voice, and all the moves that Elvis made famous, and Dean Vegas will take us all back to a time when Elvis really was the “King”.”
The $20 entry fee (under 18 free),for Sunday’s events is great value because it includes the performance of Dean Vegas, The Rockin Daddys and duo Maurice & John, plus classic cars and craft markets.
