Despite having no time in possession of the ball, the ducks caused a stir throughout the game.

The family Australian wood ducks team entered the water during play, cooling down and sizing up the competition before retreating out of the playing zone. 

The team was a strong presence during its time on the water but appeared to lack thorough knowledge of the game staying united instead of breaking into point, centre-forward, goalkeeper and other usual positions. 

Wildlife Victoria said the Australian wood duck commonly nests in suburban backyards with dams or pools, often returning to the same site every year.

The birds avoid nesting in their home watercourse so ducklings are not exposed to predators. 

Wildlife Victoria requests people who find their pool home to a clutch of ducklings to stay away from the animals and ensure all pumps and filters are turned off.
