Cr Glachan will still attend the conference as a LGNSW board member, but her twin roles of recent years as one of council’s four voting delegates ended on Monday night.
Cr Darren Cameron ultimately succeeded in himself and first term councillor Murray King joining mayor Kevin Mack and deputy mayor Amanda Cohn in being able to vote on motions and also the board elections.
The council will still cover the cost of Cr Glachan’s attendance at the conference after flagging her desire to attend with Cr Mack in the lead-up to last night’s revised line-up.
Cr Cameron blindsided some council members with his wish for Cr King to attend.
“It is an excellent learning and networking experience for new councillors particularly,” Cr Cameron said.
“If we were to send Cr Glachan again as a delegate from Albury she would in fact be entitled to two votes.
“I think a more equitable way of doing it and a chance to give more experience to the new councillors, in this case Cr King, is to send one of the new councillors as the delegate.”
Cr Graham Docksey flagged his intention to attend after not being to the conference since 2014 which prompted Cr Henk van de Ven to move an amendment that an election be held to decide the two councillors to attend in addition to the mayor and deputy mayor.
It was defeated on the casting vote of acting mayor Cr Cohn with Cr Mack an apology on Monday night.
Cr Glachan said Cr Cameron was attempting to exclude all councillors from attending.
“I urge councillors to consider the opportunity of the amendment becoming the motion may allow for other councillors around the table to nominate an expression of interest to attend,” she said.
Cr Mack also stood for the board, but missed out with nominations for the election closing in early November.
Cr Docksey said whoever represented Albury must attend all sessions and not skip off and do other things.
“My observation only,” he said.
