Tylan Graham fronted Albury Local Court for a string of traffic charges on Friday following Thursday’s incident.
He has admitted some of the allegations against him, which involve stolen cars and other driving offences.
But the court heard he will fight the pursuit charges.
Magistrate Tony Murray said Graham would likely be sent back to jail if convicted.
That was concerning, Mr Murray said, as he tried to avoid police capture every time they came near him.
He was concerned a jail term would be an added incentive for him to flee.
Graham made prayer gestures and crossed his fingers during his release application, and the court heard he had a serious drug problem.
He was bailed to return on December 5.
