The Panthers scored 7-177 from their 40 overs, with Kiewa falling short on 9-175.
The visitors needed nine runs from the final over and four from the last ball, but captain Jayden Beaumont ran out Jesse McInerney.
“It was toe to toe for the last 10 overs and they needed anywhere between five and seven runs per over,” Beaumont said.
Jaydon Wright took the ball for the final over.
“We backed him in, he’s a pretty impressive bowler and he’s hard to get away,” Beaumont said.
The skipper top-scored with 39 in a 62-run stand with fellow opener Ben Talarico (33).
Kiewa looked in strong shape at 5-139, after number three Craig Pontt racked up 54.
“Our first 10 overs we bowled way too short and they got away from us a bit,” Beaumont said.
“Then in the next probably 20 overs we really clawed them back, just a bit better bowling, pitched them up a bit more.”
Jacob Ozolins chipped in with 33, but the home team wasn’t able to break through for its first win.
On the other hand, Lavington is one of three undefeated teams, along with Wodonga and Yackandandah.
Corowa went into round three also unbeaten, but Yackandandah proved too strong at home.
Yackandandah scored 151 from 39.1 overs, with Mick Walker’s 43 the main contributor.
Nathan Rhodes snared 4-28.
Corowa never looked like running down the total, despite an aggressive 45 from coach Daniel Athanitis.
The visitors finished on 104 from 29 overs.
Dederang toppled Mount Beauty in a close game.
Dederang made 8-164 from its 40 overs, with Power coach Ashan Ranaweera grabbing three wickets.
Mount Beauty appeared to be cruising at 1-68, but lost 3-10.
The home team crumbled to 8-132, with Ben Slocombe and Aidan Grace’s 23-run stand not enough to get the premiers home.
Wodonga had a crushing win over Eskdale.
Opener Shaun Baude was the only batsman to make double figures for the home outfit with 27 as Eskdale was routed for 59, Mason Brown claiming 6-17.
Meanwhile, Bethanga and Howlong had a draw.
