About 80 crop growers learned about the latest cereal and canola varieties during the recent annual Evan Moll Field Day at Gerogery.
Hosted by the Moll family at “Elderslie” on November 2, key discussions focused on frost and flowering, which was a significant feature of this year’s season, and disease control in canola.
Cereal and canola varieties are most susceptible to frost during their flowering.
NSW Department of Primary Industry’s Felicity Harris spoke on identifying flowering dates in different varieties, and using that information to plant a spread of varieties as a successful way to manage risk.
The Gerogery National Variety Trial and Agronomy field day, presented by Riverina Plains and Murray LLS, has been a fixture on the southern NSW cropping calendar for many years.
