Power, who gave his name to a North East lookout, was a criminal associate of Kelly.
Brit George MacKay will play Kelly in the True History of the Kelly Gang which will be filmed next year.
Essie Davis, who depicts television detective Phryne Fisher, will be Kelly’s mother Ellen.
Nicholas Hoult, who starred in the film About a Boy opposite Hugh Grant, will play Constable Alexander Fitzpatrick, while those playing gang members are Sean Keenan (Joe Byrne) and Earl Cave (Dan Kelly).
Suspected Kelly Gang traitor Aaron Sherritt will be portrayed by Harry Greenwood, the son of actor Hugo Weaving.
Meanwhile, acting Indigo Council mayor Bernard Gaffney has echoed Wangaratta mayor Ken Clarke in calling for the movie to be filmed in the North East.
He said a production company involved with the Kelly Gang film contacted the shire in September and had been given a list of suitable of shooting locations.
However, the council has not heard anything further.
“It depends whether they want to be authentic or not,” Cr Gaffney said.
“In Beechworth there’s the court house where Ned Kelly was tried, the cells where he was incarcerated and a special cell modified for his mother.
“It’s just a pity when actual buildings are still standing that they would like to film it elsewhere.”
Hepburn Shire, near Ballarat, has also been approached by Kelly Gang producers scouting for locations.
