Ryan Selwood, a cameraman for 9News, had his camera hit and was “dragged” 50 metres, while filming outside a County Court sitting. 

The man approached Mr Selwood, blocking the camera’s vision, and asking if he could help with anything. 

Mr Selwood replied he was “just doing his job” and asked the man to move out of the way.

After the man refused Mr Selwood took the camera and attempted to move away from the man. 

Footage shows the man hitting the camera to the ground and repeatedly telling Mr Selwood to “show some respect” and asking “am I a person?”.

The man continued to refuse to release the camera, walking 50 metres into the court house as Mr Selwood attempted to hold on, with 9News reporting the man then fled the building. 

Reporter Ashlea Kunowski said the crew were not near the man when filming and there was a right to film in public places. 

“It’s really disgraceful behaviour for our cameraman to be attacked in such a manner,” she said. “Our role as journalists are to inform members of the Border North East community about the criminal activity happening in our region.”

Mr Selwood said the confrontation left him feeling shocked and violated. 

“A person shouldn’t go out doing their job and get threatened, and be put in that position, and be pushed around,” he said.

His employer 9News said the matter would be left to police.

They said police interviewed the man and released pending a summons. 

It was the second attack on a 9NEWS regional crew this week, following a man lashing out at reporter Maggie Raworth outside Ballarat Court.
