Last year, after my darling husband passed, we had a wee sapling bottlebrush put down out there for him. Some family rang to tell me they’d been out for a visit, and noticed that it was snapped off at the base.
I rang Glenmorus, and was advised by Marg and John that they were already on it – a new tree was ordered and will be swiftly replaced.
Great people, these – professional with just the right mix of compassion.
I always feel tremendous gratitude to the local council for creating and maintaining such a beautiful space for those of us who have lost loved ones.
I don’t know if “enjoy” is the right word, but we really do love being out there – it’s a marvellous, tranquil place to wander, sit and think one’s thoughts.

The right decision
Congratulations to the councillors of Albury for their decision to reject the recommendation to approve re-zoning of the floodplain in East Albury's Willowbank Road.
The Murray River is a precious resource for not only Albury residents and businesses, current and future, but also downstream users. To avoid further potential damage to the waterways seems to me a no-brainer.
But seriously, who would want to develop in a floodplain, and who would bear the consequences from future litigation by aggrieved developers/business owners whose business has flooded in an 'approved area'?
Check out Brisbane as an example. Let alone the damage to the Murray River and impacts on tourism, one of the few growth industries in this area.
There is good reason development on the banks of a river should be avoided. The previous 400m buffer has (recklessly?) been reduced to 100m and this proposal encroached even that.
Please follow up your good work by putting closure to this unwarranted proposal, and let the former farmer sell his land to someone with foresight or willingness to put the property to its rightful use. Again notwithstanding it is a floodplain.
Tim Hoffmann, Albury
Heartfelt thanks
A big thank you to members of Albury retired police who attended the funeral service in Canberra for Colin Power, our brother-in-law (a retired police officer at Albury).
The family was touched as members formed a guard of honour to celebrate the life of their friend and colleague who was tragically killed in Broadbeach earlier this month.
Heartfelt thanks to you all.

Untold damage
The news out of Albury court with a male allegedly putting the drug ice on a baby’s pacifier was very disturbing, and raises concerns about how safe many young lives are around drug-addicted parents.
How many children are being neglected in the homes of drug addicts.
The safe injecting rooms proposed will need to have day care as well, perhaps .
There is too much interest in helping addicts inject and too little care about who they harm and damage that they are doing every day.
