Earlier this year Albury Council awarded a $4.49 million contract to Southern Cross Developers for the project, but the cafe and bar was excluded when two independent quantity surveyor assessments had earlier estimated a total build cost of around $8 million.
Upon awarding the tender for the far cheaper price, the council authorised general manager Frank Zaknich to negotiate a post award variation for the cafe and bar.
The priced variation for the cafe and bar is $618,619 and its inclusion in the project will have no impact on the present works program.
It’s anticipated the arrival including eastern end of cafe and bar area will be completed and operational by early March next year and and the remaining internal upgrade finished by the end of April.
Installation of an upgraded air-conditioning system was scheduled to start in mid-November.
“From the point of commercial prudency, logistics and to improve the level of service for all users of the airport terminal, significant efficiencies and benefit is gained with cafe and bar,” a council report states.
