Thurgoona premiership wingman Joel Roberson signed with the Hoppers on Monday night.
He’s the grandson of 289-gamer Stan Sargeant, who’s a league and club Hall of Fame legend.
“It will put a smile on his face and hopefully he’ll be able to be there for the first game and watch me in the green and gold I guess,” Roberson said.
“He’s wanted me to come across for a while now and I think he’s pretty stoked.”
Roberson’s younger brother Tyler, who turns 16 next week, will also join the Hoppers.
“Joel’s fairly quick, he moves really well and has got good hands,” co-coach Clinton Gilson said.
Sargeant’s record is set to be equalled by long-time star Daniel Leslie in the opening round, with the Hoppers handed an ideal opportunity to celebrate the record in round two’s home clash against Yarrawonga.
