Murray finished 11-under par in the NSW Open at Twin Creeks Golf and Country Club in western Sydney.
West Australian Jason Scrivener blitzed the field with a stunning 24-under, posting a six-shot win.
Murray fired four rounds under par, starting with 71 on Thursday,
But it was his sizzling six-under 66 which pushed him towards the top on Friday.
The 20-year old finished his work on the weekend with two rounds of 70.
He was tied for 14th.
It follows his superb tie for ninth in the Western Australian Open last month.
Murray’s aim, heading into the event, was to win automatic entry into the Australian Open, which starts in Sydney on Thursday.
The qualifying for the event will be held on Monday at three Sydney courses with 10 players set to win through.
Murray made the cut in last year’s Australian Open.
