Controversial former England star Kevin Pietersen was confirmed this morning for the Border Bash on December 12.
It’s an enormous coup for not only the region’s cricket fans, but sports lovers in general, after he was unavailable for last year’s inaugural event at the Lavington Sportsground.
“I’ve been told that last year’s event was a huge success, so we’re hoping for a big crowd and a great atmosphere this year,” Pietersen said.
“The Border Bash is the perfect preparation for us to really attack the season.”

Pietersen will headline the competition’s highest-profile team against the Sydney Thunder.
The pair played two BBL pre-season matches in 2016, with the same outfits meeting in the women’s match for competition points.
Those teams will again play for points, with the men’s match to follow from 6.30pm.
Last year’s event attracted a bumper crowd of 9962.
Given reasonable weather, the crowd could hit five figures, given Pietersen’s availability.
And cricket fans will also be keeping a close eye on Australia’s progress against England in the Ashes series.
The flamboyant Glenn Maxwell was considered unlucky to miss out on the number six spot taken by West Australian Shaun Marsh, while all-rounder Marcus Stoinis is another player in Test contention.
If Australia performs well in the first two Tests, it increases the chances of Maxwell and Stoinis also featuring for the Stars in what would be a virtual full-strength team against the Thunder.
Pietersen made almost 14,000 runs at international level, including more than 8000 at 47 in 104 Test matches.
As well as playing in the Big Bash, with the Stars striving desperately for a first title, the 37-year old will also commentate during the series.
